Registrations will open February 1.
Registrations will open February 1.
1) Do I need a visa to come to Switzerland?
Switzerland is one of the countries within the Schengen Area. Selected Young Ambassadors and participants from the following countries are required to apply for a visa in order to enter the Swiss territory and participate in the conference in Caux:
- Armenia
- Azerbaijan
- Belarus
- Georgia
- Kazakstan
- Kosovo
- Russian Federation
- Turkey
- Ukraine
Important: If you require a Swiss visa, your application must reach the Conference Secretariat several weeks prior to your arrival in Caux. Each participant is responsible for his/her own visa application.
2) How far in advance should I apply for a visa?
You should bear in mind that the visa process can take up to 10 weeks. We recommend that you start applying shortly after you receive the letter of confirmation from the Registration Department. The letter is part of the documentation you need to start your application. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to apply as soon as you receive the confirmation letter and preferably within a time frame of 2 weeks.
Please also bear in mind that during the summer, which is peak season for travelers, embassies must cope with many other applications and they may not have immediate availability for an appointment.
3) If I don't manage to get a visa on time, can I still come to Caux?
Unfortunately if you do not manage to have your visa ready at least one week before the conference, you will not be eligible to join us in Caux. In fact, even if you are successful in getting an appointment at the embassy, you should bear in mind that it takes some time to process your application to get the visa issued. For this reason, once you have received your "Invitation Letter" from the Registration Department do not hesitate to contact your embassy immediately to ask for information.
4) How do I get to Caux?
Caux is located one and a half hours by car or train from Geneva and two hours from Bern. Trains to Caux run from Geneva Airport as well as from Bern every hour. For exact departure times and connections to Caux, consult www.cff.ch.
If you arrive in Geneva, you can take a direct train from Geneva Airport or Geneva Gare Cornavin to Montreux. There you can take another train that will take you up to Caux and the conference centre is less than 5 minutes walk from the train station, where you will find members of our staff ready to welcome you!
To purchase the train tickets you can click here. If you are lucky, you might get discount tickets (aprox. 25.- CHF one way) by checking and booking in advance here.
If not, you can always buy your tickets at the train station and they will cost approximately 40.-CHF one way.
Important: you can wait to purchase your return ticket to Montreux because many people drive up to Caux and you might be able to find a ride to the town at the end of the conference. Moreover, Young Ambassadors to the AEUB will receive a discount card for transportation which is valid in the whole Montreux Riviera Area once they join us in Caux.
5) Should I observe a specific dress code in Caux?
You are not required to observe a specific dress code in Caux, however we recommend that you dress smart casual. Moreover, since the conference is held during the Summer, the weather is usually sunny but don’t forget to bring a pair of comfortable walking/hiking shoes and some warm clothes because it can get cold at night. Also remember to check the weather forecast before you depart!
6) What’s around Caux? Should I bring with me anything in particular?
Caux is a small village situated 1000m above Montreux, overlooking Lake Geneva. There is a chapel, a tennis court and lots of inspiring nature up there! Given the peculiarity of the place, don't expect to find all your favourite shops and famous coffee chains. On the other hand, inside the Caux Palace you will find a coffee shop, a post office and a tiny corner where you can purchase staple goods such as soap, tooth paste etc. So, we encourage and remind you to bring any items (such as your favorite snacks, non alcoholic drinks) that you really cannot do without! Also bear in mind that there is no ATM in Caux and that it is better to bring some cash with you. In case of necessity, the most common currencies can be exchanged into Swiss Francs at the Reception desk.
